NEWPORT BRIDGE FLOODWAY MAINTENANCE
The Newport Way SE bridge was replaced in 1999. As part of that project a floodway expansion area was engineered into the design to improve the flow capacity below the bridge. During periods of high flows, water leaves the main stem of Issaquah Creek and travels through the normally dry areas under the bridge and returns to the creek north of Newport Way SE. Fine sediment accumulates during the high flows and reduces the capacity of the floodway to manage the high flows. The project is to maintain the floodway by removing the fine sediment deposited during periods of high flows in Issaquah Creek returning the channel to the original design for optimal performance
