This tree has become increasingly dangerous as it grows taller and wider. The tree has very large, heavy branches that overhang our property and our neighbor''s property. We are concerned that if these branches fall, they could result in serious property damage to our and our neighbor''s property. Last week, a large branch at the top of the tree split in two. This type of branch failure is not new; in the past, large branches have split off the tree leaving broad scars on the trunk. Two of the tree''s heaviest, biggest branches are now supported by wood ''bracing'' that we installed years ago but is now inadequate. In a meeting on 9-13 with Sterling Malcomson of Bartlett Tree Service, we learned that Mimosa trees are ''weak-wooded'' and Bartlett removes many of them each year. He said that the ability to continue pruning the tree is limited because many of the branches that grow outward, contributing to the weight, are too long and weak to support workers who need to go up into the tree to prune. We would like to remove the tree, excluding the stump and roots, which Bartlett cannot remove. We would pay the cost of the removal. We would like to proceed as soon as possible because the wet, windy weather will increase the danger as autumn approaches. Because of the dense vegetation in that area including 3 conifers, 3 vine maples and mature native shrubbery, we do not plan to replant.
